9
• C&K-AC generally classifies prehistoric and historic remains in the
following manner:
Prehistoric site - activity locus consisting of structural remains andf
or five or more artifacts, including lithic debitage, contained
within a radius of fifteen meters.
Prehistoric locality - activity locus lacking structural remains and
containing two to tour artifacts, including lithic debitage, within
a fifteen meter radius.
Prehistoric isolated find (IF) - a single artifact that cannot be demonstrated
to be within close enough proximity to a prehistoric site or locality
to allow cultural or temporal association to be hypothesized.
Historic site - activity locus consisting of structural remains and/or
a concentration of historic debris (i. e. a midden not associated
with a structure may, if large and varied enough, or if obviously
multi-componenet, be considered a site; a scatter of ten tin cans
• would not).
Historic locality - activity locus consisting of structural remains ands
or containing a few scattered artifacts, usually definable in terms
of a specific activity (e. g. the remains of a wagon, sawdust and
debris from logging activity, several pieces of debris representing
an overnight camp, etc.).
Historic isolated find (IF) - a single artifact that cannot be demonstrated
to be within suffiecient proximity to an historic site or locality to
allow association to be hypothesized.
Colorado State Archaeological Site Inventory forms are completed for all
sites (and are accompanied by BIM corer sheets where appropriate). Historic sites
are additionally recorded on Colorado Historical Society, Department of Historic
Preservation Inventory forms. Localities and isolated finds are recorded on G1K-AC
Isolated Find forms (see Appendix A of this report).
Irnentory results for drill holes, the Hawk's Nest Mine area, the waste
disposal area, the Oliver Power Plant area, and additional survey areas will be
discussed separately below. Reeource locat'_ons and descriptions appear in Ap-
pendix A of this report.
