• (c) Exhibit 23, Tab Section 6 illustrates the soil types occurring within the
Roadside North and South Permit areas.
(d) Information in Appendix 9-6 addresses the suitability of each soil unit
within the permit area as a plant growth medium. A section in this
Appendix named "Soils Ratings for Drastically Disturbed Areas" includes
guidelines for evaluating the potential of a soil for reconstruction soil
material. Other tables in the Appendix include most of the properties used
in the rating guide. Table 9-1 includes ratings for the soil groups disturbed
by the operation.
(e) Productivity of the soils within the permit area are very limited as indicated
by the capability unit ratings described. Potential for increased
productivity of those soils disturbed as a result of mining operations is not
anticipated.
n
LJ
2.04.12 Prime Farmland Investigation
The limited amount of surface disturbance associated with the Roadside
North Portals and Roadside South Portals Facility is located in areas
listed as "Rock Outcrop" soil type. Due to this designation we believe
prime farmland investigation in this area is not necessary.
None of the existing areas of land disturbed by surface facilities is
considered prime farmland since, historically none of the disturbed areas
are used as cropland.
I•
9-6 (Rev. 12/02)
