This is a deep <br />well drained soil on gently to strongly sloping hillsides at elevations <br />of 6,300 to 7,000 feet. It formed in material weathered from shale. <br />The average annual precipitation is about 15 to 17 inches, the average <br />annual ai; temperature is about 41 to 43 degrees F, and the frost-free <br />season is 75 to 95 days. <br />cr~Lt are~as~or~2lty clay loam and Absher fine sandy loam are <br />included in mapping. Also included are small areas which have stones <br />on the surface. <br />Typically the surface layer is dark grayish brown silty clay loam <br />about 4 inches thick. The subsoil is brown silty clay about 42 inches <br />thick. The substratum is light yellowish brown silty clay to 60 inc'nes <br />C or more. <br />Permeability is very slow. Available water capacity is high. <br />Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Surface runoff is medium <br />and erosion hazard is moderate from water. <br />Most acreage is dry cropland with small areas of rangeland. They <br />rangeland areas are used for livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. <br /> <br />
