r
• •
4. Loss of Wildlife Habitat.
Reclamation of the mined out gravel pits could provide good habitat
for fish and waterfowl and would compensate for some of the loss of
riparian habitat for the wildlife that presently use this area.
5. Increased Traffic.
Merge lanes should be required to interchange the traffic between
the State Highway and the access road to the Gravel Operation.
An access road should be considered along the west boundary of the
Frazier Farms property.
It would access State Highway 92 at the east end of the four lane
portion and would provide room for the merge and access lanes on
the present highway right of way.
This would mimimize the impact on Highway 65 and its junction with
with Highway 92, which is about one eight of a mile west.
6. Impact on Agricultural Land and Open Space.
The west parcel on the Volk Subdivision has a deed restriction for
agricultural use. This restriction should remain in place until the
mining is nearly completed on the remainder of the Volk Subdivision
and Frazier Farms. At that time, a review could be made, based on
the success of the Reclamation Effort on the mined portion and
other factors to determine if it is in the public interest to allow
the west parcel to be mined.
Income from the sale of gravel could very well enable Frazier Farms
to continue farming. This portion of Frazier Farms lays adjacent
and North of Highway 92 and the railroad tracks. Along with other
beautiful farms in this portion of the Gunnison Valley, this is a
showplace for Delta County Agriculture. These fields and open space
provide pleasure for everyone that drives on Highway 92.
I respectfully urge approval of this enterprise, with the necessary
mitigation measures to make this as compatable as possible with
adjacent landowners and the public.
~~ ~~~
Lee W.
