FIELD INVESTIGATION AND MONITORING PROGRAM
Field investigations were conducted at the Blue Ribbon mine site
to:
o Evaluate existing conditions.
o Initiate a monitoring program for determining areas of
instability and recording changes in the existing
condition.
o Obtain samples for laboratory testing.
An on-site inspection of the project was made on September 23,
and September 26, 1981, in order to investigate site conditions.
Active land sliding was observed in a portion of the bench fill
at that time, which has not appeared to hinder operation of the
mine to this point. Similarly, a rock fall problem was observed
in the highwall area which appears to have been dealt with
through benching to collect rock fall debris and, again, does not
appear to hinder operations of the mine.
An additional visit was made on December 8, 1981. At this time,
nine borings were located on the site. Three borings were
located in the bench fill and the remaining borings were located
on the main bench up to the toe of the highwall, to determine the
depth of fill. Piezometers were installed in four of the nine
borings. The general location of the borings are shown on Figure
2 and the boring logs and the piezometer installation sheets are
presented in Appendix B.
A monitoring system was installed on the bench fill area,
consisting of two separate lines of survey points located in the
uppermost half of the fill area. The system was installed to
determine movements of the bench fill for the pucposes of
2
