9bsher Series - Contd. <br />• C2cs 32-42"--Grayish brown (2.SY 5/2) silty clay, dark grayish <br />brown (2.SY 4/2) moist; massive; extremely hard, firm, <br />• sticky and plastic; common very fine and fine roots; many <br />very fine and fine and few medium pores; common gypsum <br />crystals; common salt crystals; slightly effervescent; <br />strongly alkaline (pH 8.4); diffuse wavy boundary. (9 to <br />18 inches thick) <br />C3cs 42-60"--Very pale brown (lOYR 7/3) clay, grayish brown (2.SY <br />5/2) and brown (lOYR 5/3) moist; varves that are silt loam <br />and of one centimeter average thickness and massive; <br />extremely hard, firm, sticky and plastic; few very fine <br />and fine roots; few very fine and fine gypsum crystals; <br />slightly effervescent; strongly alkaline (pH 8.5). <br />Range in Characteristics: Depth to accumulated segregated gypsum ranges <br />from 8 to 15 inches. The mean annual soil temperature is 42° to 46°F. <br />• The average summer soil temperature is 60° to 65°F. The mayor surface <br />textures when mixed to depth of 7 inches are loam, clay loam, silty clay <br />• or clay. Rock fragments throughout the profile range from 0 to 15 per- <br />cent. <br />The Al horizon, where present, has hue of 2.SY or lOYR, value of 5 or 6 <br />dry, 3 or 4 moist, and is usually less than 2 inches thick. <br />The A2 horizon has hue of 2.SY or lOYR, value of 6 or 7 dry and chroma of <br />1 through 3. <br />The Bt horizon has hue of 2.SY or lOYR, value of 4 through 6 dry, and <br />chroma of 1 through 3. It is clay loam, clay or silty clay and has 35 to <br />60 percent clay. This horizon has moderate or strong columnar or pris- <br />matic structure. It ranges from noncalcareous to calcareous with few <br />threads of lime or gypsum and is mildly to very strongly alkaline. The <br />EC mmhos/cm ranges from 8 to 15. The ESP ranges from 20 to 50 percent. <br />• <br />
