(4 to 8 <br />inches thick) <br />C 44-60"--Brown (lOYR 5/3) loam, dark brown (lOYR 4/3) moist; <br />few small faint pale brown (lOYR 6/3) moist mottles; <br />massive; hard, friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; <br />noncalcareous; neutral (pH 7.2). <br />Range in Characteristics: Depth to uniformly calcareous material normal- <br />ly ranges from 40 to more than 60 inches and is not shallower than the <br />upper 3 inches of the C horizon if the solum is thicker than 40 inches. <br />Thickness of the mollic epipedon and depth to the base of the argillic <br />horizon range from 17 to 50 inches. The control section of some pedons <br />has few faint mottles with chroma of more than 2 in both matrix and <br />. mottling. Rock fragments range from 0 to 15 percent by volume in a major <br />
