Fleming
ADCO Consulting
2090 E 104th Avenue, #305
Thornton, CO 80233
Dear Mr. Fleming:
As per your recruest, I revisited the site on November 16
with NRCS Area Biologist Randy Randall, and with his assistance I
have developed some recommendations for the Cooley and Fulton
Lake Pits proposed mining operation:
Parcel A:
1. Existing stands of
cover for wildlife
use of this cover.
targeted to distur
would benefit from
o imp prove the age
Cottonwood and Willow provide excellent
A herd of mule deer was observed making
Any mining operations should be
~ as few trees as possible. This parcel
planting Cottonwood and Willow saplings
and height diversity of the stand.
2. There is a strong presence of Leafy spurge (Euphorbia ~~~,~
esula), which is listed as a noxious weed in Adams county
and must be controlled. Lea'_y spurge in or adjacent to land n_ ~~
that needs to be revegetated will invade these acres and Diu{-~'
make the seeding of native plants extremely difficult. ~
Contact the Cooperative Extension Service in Weld county at Q y~
(303) 637-8100 for weed control guidelines. Every effort ¢~RVo
should be made to control this problem before revegetation
occurs, taking care to interfere with the existing wildlife
as little as possible.
3. The five acres that are intended far mining can be
revegetated using the enclosed grass mix for Parcel A and
the recommended practices for grass planting. If the land
is seasonally wet enough, sedges and rushes can be
transplanted in clumps while the soil is wet within a few
inches of the soil surface. Clumps of one type of
vegetation should be alternated with clumps of a different
type if possible. These are only general guidelines and
should not be considered an official wetland mitigation
plan.
9
