Department of Natural Resources -3-
•
April) 26, 1985
6. It seems from your description that contemporaneous backf~lling with
the coarse tails will occur during the mininy operation. Ple se estimate
the maximum volume of material that would be stockpiled or pi ed as tails
during each phase of your operation.
The approximate location of the temporary tailing piles is shown on
Map F. These piles will not be allowed to accumulate more than seven
operational days before they are distributed in Area A or backfilled
to the areas of Phase i and II. This means that the maxi um yardage
for these temporary piles will be 37,800 yards during that art of the
season which the mill runs for 18 hours a day and 16,800 fo that part
of the season which the mill runs 8 hours a day. The red stribution
of the course tails is planned to occur more frequently than every
seven-day period.
7. What is the estimated volume of topsoil that will be salv~ged? What
is the maximum depth that can be salvaged) Will deeper poc ets (scale
areas) of topsoil be salvaged or spoiled)
Most of the topsoil which can be salvaged occurs in the ar a of Phase
III. Only limited amounts can be recovered from Phase II. Since the
topsoil depth never exceeds six inches, the area of Pha a 11I has /
• approximately 10,487 cubic yards of topsoil which will be s lvaged and
maintained as outlined in Exhibit E, paragraphs 6 and 7. An pproximate
1,700 additional yards will be salvaged from the area o Phase II
which will be preserved in the area designated on Maps * D. No
deeper pockets of topsoil occurs deeper than six inche from the
surface. All material which naturally occurs below this six inches
will be spoiled.
8. Concerning historic mining as a future land use, is this area designated
or zoned by Park County as Historic Mining or Historic Pr nervation?
if not, I recommend that the proposed future land use be sole y wildlife
habitat.
Our misunderstanding as to the meaning of the designation of part of /
the project area as historic mine site was in error. he proper
designation of the final land use of the permit area is roposed as
solely wildlife habitat. That part of the project area which was
disturbed from past mining operations as well as the jabandonded
equipment will not be disturbed by the present operation a will not
be part of the reclamation of the permit area. It will be left as is.
9. Concerning the previously disturbed area, Phase I, and Ara A, what
will be the proposed final grades in these areas? Will soil amendments
be used? Concerning vegetation test plots at the Combinations were soil
amendments used or fertilizer applied?
