-53-
• MR. BALDRIGE: We don't know. We thought it was anamalous because
neither the tailings material, when tested by themselves, nor the conglomerate
material when tested by itself, showed aRy levels or any indication of any
acid production. So, when we saw this we said, there is something wrong
here. And, we asked the lab if they could determine what there error has been
-- it's Core Laboratories -- they were unable to give us an explanation as to
what the error could have been but they cannot duplicate low pH.
MR. HOLDER: But your subsequent tests also mingled the materials?
MS. BALDRIGE: That's correct.
MR. HOLDER: It eliminates the possibility that there's some reaction
between the two materials?
MS. BALDRIGE: That's correct. In addition, you would expect in weeks
. two and three to either see same resigual of that initial low pH reading or a
continued pH reading, and in the subsequent weeks you see neither any
residuous acididty measure nor do you see a continued low pH.
MR. BARRY: Of course, I don't know if it's in order or not, I guess I
might ask Ron Cohen for his reaction to that explanation. You testified that
your expertise is in acid forming materials. Could you give us ;your reaction
to that explanation?
MR. R. COHEN: Certainly. I think they did what I suggested that I would
have done. I didn't know that they repeated that experiment. There was a few
samples that they did test, and given that few I would have gone in and
re-tested the same sample. In fact, examine if there was a problem or if it
was an anomalous and that's what they did.
MR. JOUFLAS: Anne, is that it?
