travel along the centerline will be restricted to a 50 foot wide corridor on either side of the staked
centerline. All angering of shot holes will be confined to the staked centerline.
EVALUATION OF RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
The results of this investigation were generally as expected. A few sites and isolated
finds were discovered, mostly along drainages and in disturbed areas. Some unexpected results
were the lack of historic sites encountered and the spazsity of isolated finds. Also unexpected
was the lack of prehistoric sites on topographic prominences.
Five prehistoric sites (SRT512, SRT160, SRT1368, SRT1369, and SRT1370) and one
historic site (SRT113) along with two prehistoric (IF SRT1371 and SRT1372) and two historic
isolated finds (SRT1373 and SRT1374) were recorded during this investigation. The three newly
recorded prehistoric sites (SRT1368, SRT1369 and SRT1370) encountered during this
investigation are recommended to be potentially eligible to the National Register. Previously
recorded prehistoric site SRT512 is currently not evaluated with respect to National Register
eligibility. A stain was noted within its boundaries which were expanded to incorporate some
additional observed artifacts. However it remains unevaluated with respect to the National
Register. Site SRT160 was originally recommended to be eligible to the National Register but is
reevaluated here as not eligible to the National Register due to the sparse remains and lack of
potential for additional subsurface remains. Historic site SRT113 has been recommended to be
not eligible to the National Register. Isolated finds are by definition not eligible to the National
Register.
All of the sites encountered during this investigation except for historic site SRT 113 were
avoided through deviations of the seismic lines which would have impacted them. The three
potentially eligible prehistoric sites and the one unevaluated prehistoric site along seismic line
9903 (SRT1368, SRT1369, SRT1370, SRT512) were avoided by deviations of seismic line 9903
to the north up the slopes above them and down a drainage that separates SRT512 from
SRT1370. Site SRT160 was avoided by a deviation of seismic line 9902 to the north through an
old core hole location, however, re-evaluation of the site as not eligible does not require
utilization of this deviation. These deviations provide a buffer of 50 feet or more between all the
sites and the proposed seismic line centerlines. Cultural resource clearance is recommended for
the seismic lines and core holes provided that all seismic activities are restricted to within 50 feet
of the centerlines along the deviations of lines 9902 and 9903. All angering activities and shot
holes must remain along the flagged centerlines and no driving may take place more than 50 feet
from the flagged centerlines except on established and maintained roads. Provided these
stipulations are adhered to, cultural resource clearance is recommended for the project.
13
