GEC Minerals, Inc. anticipates using similar equipment for its
expected expansion through 1985. Coal production is listed in
Table 2.05-1 by year end for the total (5) year period. The
existing equipment is shown in Table 2.05-2, Equipment List.
The process as described above is repeated for each of the four
or five seams which are planned to be mined within the permit
area. The backfill area progresses immediately behind the lowest
coal seam which has been mined in conjunction with the progression
of the pit area. GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to utilize a tem or _
overburden stockpile adjacent to the area to be mined during the
period 1982 to 1985. Material from this overburden stockpile will
be used in 1985 to backfill the final pit. Additional overburden
from 1982 and 1983 will be hauled to the final pit which was dug
near the Western permit boundary in 1982. Upon completion of the
backfill the area will be graded to approximate original contour as
• shown on the Post-Mining Topography Map No. 23 and the associated
Cross Sections Map No. 25 and No. 26. Overall operations of the
mine plan are expected to occur in five (5) benches, one for each
seam, approximately 100 feet wide and one backfill area as graphically
shown on Map No. 16, Mine Plan Cross Section.
The backfilling process which occurs concurrently with the mining
operation is the initial point of reestablishing the area to the
approximate original contour. Upon completion of the dump to the
previously designed elevation, the dump will be graded utilizing
large crawler tractors. Where possible the area will be graded
along the contour to decrease the erosion potential and enhance the
efficiency of the grading operation. The graded areas will be left
in a rough condition to minimize wind and water erosion. Upon
completion of the grading process, subsoil and topsoil will be
distributed on the areas to be reclaimed. Topsoil and subsoil
depths will be similar to those originally found within the area
as shown on Topsoil Handling Maps 19 and 20. A permanent and
• diverse vegetative cover will be established on the topsoiled areas
2.05-7
