GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to continue mining within this general
area after 1985 and therefore does not plan to reclaim and re-
vegetate the Haul Road "A" which it currently is using prior to
1986.
GEC Minerals, Inc. because it plans to continue mining in the area
after 1985, does not plan to reclaim the tipple area during this
five (5) year period. However, there exists four (4) areas South
of the tipple area out of the active mining area which GEC Minerals,
Inc. plans to grade and revegetate to minimize erosion potential
within this area. These areas consist of a refuse pond, the North
Orphan Mine, the Orphan Mine and Pit in Section 25. With the
exception of Pit in Section 25, these other disturbed areas result
from previous operators mining within this area. GEC Minerals,
Inc. plans to backfill and grade the depressions in order to
restore drainage and then revegetate the area with seed mixture as
• shown in Table 2.05-10, Seed Mixture. The area within Section 25
will be backfilled, graded and topsoil material redistributed prior
to revegetation as required by the approved plan in Exhibit 11.
These areas are currently under bond by GEC Minerals, Inc. and have
been agreed to by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division as
noted in Exhibit 11.
Planting and Seeding Methods. Once topsoil and subsoil material
have been redistributed and graded, a farm tractor with a chisel
plow or equivalent implement will be used to scarify the topsoil in
preparation for seeding and planting. Chisel plowing will alleviate
any compaction which has been caused by scrapers or other equipment
utilized during the topsoil redistribution and grading activities.
In addition, this practice also promotes root penetration and water
infiltration. Upon completion of the chisel plowing activity mulch
will be applied by hand or blown onto the surface. Then the area
will be disked or crimped to anchor the mulch into the soil and
prepare a firm seed bed ready for seeding or planting. The area
• will then be seeded or planted using the diverse perennial mixture
listed in Table 2.05-10, Seed Mixture.
2.05-28
