Subsoil and topsoil materials will be redistributed in a thickness
approximately equal to that which was removed. Replacement of the
subsoil material will occur first followed by the topsoil material
ollowing redistribution of the soil materials the final surface
will be graded to provide a reconstructed soil profile similar to
that which was originally in place prior to disturbance. This will
assure a uniform stable thickness which is capable of restoring the
post-mining land uses.
Topsoil and subsoil material will be redistributed utilizing large
rubber tired scrapers to haul the topsoil and subsoil materials
from stockpiles or from areas where it is being removed prior to
mining. These rubber tired scrapers will spread the topsoil and
subsoil materials in sequence and at approximate thicknesses as
designated by the pre-mining soils depths. Data which indicates
various depths of soils and subsoils are located within Exhibit 4,
Baseline Soils Information. The schedule which GEC Minerals, Inc.
• plans to follow is shovm in Table 2.05-3, Affected Areas for
Mining and Reclamation.
After topsoil and subsoil materials have been redistributed the
topsoil will be scarified with a chisel plow or equivalent piece of
equipment to eliminate compaction caused by rubber tired scrapers.
This treatment promotes root penetration and infiltration of water
to the vegetation.
Wind and water erosion is controlled prior to seeding and after
topsoil and subsoil redistribution by leaving the area in a rough
condition. At the completion of the topsoil and subsoil redistri-
bution the area will be mulched to also minimize potential wind and
water erosion. The mulch will be crimped to ensure that it is
stable and stays in place. Following the mulching operation the
seed will be either drill seeded or broadcast seed on the areas

2.05-26
