Standards of the Rules and Regulations. GEC Minerals, Inc.
continues to work to ensure that all structures are maintained
in more than an adequate condition. Extra care is taken to
be sure that each of the structures required functions operates
as designed and constructed. Additional critical data associated
with these structures are located within the approved Permit
Amendment of 1979 and Tables 2.05-7, 2.05-8 and 2.05-9; Figures
2.05-5 and 2.05-6 and Exhibit 1 of this application.
The sediment control structures and diversion ditches will be in
place during the period of time when actual mining operations are
conducted and during the 10 year period after completion of the
regraded and initial revegetation activities. Once revegetation
has been effectively reestablished and water quality standards as
required by the Performance Standards of Section 4.05 are met, GEC
Minerals, Inc. plans to remove all sediment control ponds and
• regrade and backfill where required the Diversion Ditches A, B and
C. In addition, all sediment ponds and diversion ditches currently
in existance as shown on Map No. 21 and 22, Existing Structures,
will be removed once vegetation has been reestablished and water
quality standards are met.
Topsoil. Immediately after clearing and grubbing and prior to any
other mining related activities, all available topsoil and subsoil
will be removed from the area to be mined. Topsoil and subsoil
will be removed separately and placed in separate stockpiles or be
distributed on regraded areas depending on whether or not regraded
areas are available for redistribution. See Map 19, Topsoil
Handling. Equipment to be utilized for topsoil and subsoil removal
consists of large capacity rubber tired scrapers which will be push
loaded with crawler tractors.
The amounts of topsoil and subsoil to be removed each year as shown
on the Topsoil Handling Map are also listed in Table 2.05-4, Topsoil
• Schedule for Mining Area and Table 2.05-5, Topsoil Removal Plan.
2.05-14
