1.0 SUMMARY AND OVERVIEW
This application covers the operation of the Edna Mine for the next five
years and provides environmental resources information £or areas covering the
remainder of the life of the mine. The permit boundary and stream buffer
zones are shown on Exhibit 1.0-1. It should be noted that Exhibit 1.0-1 is
the only Exhibit in this document which correctly depicts the permit boundary.
The permit boundary shown on all of the other exhibits shows an additional
1040.2 acres being included within the permit boundary on the north end of the
property. Technical Revision 33 removed 869 acres from the current boundary.
An additional 171.2 acres are being removed via Technical Revision 99.
The permit boundary follows natural boundaries around most of the mine.
To the west, the boundary is parallel and just outside disturbed areas.
The northern boundary is marked by an east-west fence except where it
intersects with the mines north access road. At that point it follows a line
150 feet from the center point of the road to the eastern boundary. The area
North of the northern boundary is not proposed to be mined. To the east, the
permit boundary is outside the disturbed area along the ridge separating the
Trout Creek drainage basin from the Oak Creek drainage basin. The boundary
has easterly extensions for access roads and the offices and coal load out
facilities. A buffer zone is shown along Oak Creek. To the south, the
boundary is just below the ridge line except for exclusions for undisturbed
areas with Skyline Drive and a Routt County sanitary waste disposal facility.
TR49 1.0-1 August 15, 2005
