(p s p ) was
c assif~ ad 5 a "variant" because the entire profile section is nonca lcareous. The ch roma of the Bw and Cg] horizons is one chip llgh ter than t he official
series. The A horizon thickness is also one loch less than the required thick ness to be classifi ed as a mol l lc epipedon. All other pa ranee to rs are within the
official range of charac tertst lcs. Assoc la ted vegetation at this sample site includes sagebrush, snowberry, and various grasses.
Range of Characteristics: Routt was described at 11 locations within the study area (profile description site N6, 7, 10, 11, 15, 20, 23, 28, 29, 41, and 42).
~e was c ass ie as a "variant" because the profile was somewhat poorly drained with high and low chroma mottles in the argillic horizon. The texture
of the mollic epipedon ranges from fine sandy loam to silty clay loam. Reaction ranges from very strongly acid to neutral. All other parameters are within
the official range of characteristics. Thickness of the mollic epipedon ranged from 18 to 29 inches with a mean of 22 inches. Coarse fragment content ranges
up to 15 percent in some profiles. Dominant shrub vegetation at the description sites include oakbrush, snowberry, se rv iceberry, sagebrush, and chokecherry,
