• i
Mined Land Reclamation
Page 2
March 12, 1979
5• The water used in washing our sand out of the gravel is pumped
from a circulating pond onto a screen to a classifier and
returned immediately to the pond. The water is from the natural
sub table that exists in the area. Additional information can
also be found in VIII. Exhibit G. -- Water Information.
6. In regards to this question, we have listed the number of acres
to be reclaimed each year in VII. Exhibit E. -- Reclamation Plan.
As this figures to be approximately one acre per year (going by
the past five years) you could figure it as cost of reclamation
per year plus ten percent.
In addition to this, we are reclaiming an old existing gravel pit
by dumping leftover materials from our ready mix operation into i*.
As filling takes place, we spread fill dirt over the top and level
it. This will also eventually be seeded.
At the most, the size of this small pit could be estimated at
about one-half acre, and the reclamation process will be an ongoing
process for the next few years.
7. We have included a copy of a letter from the Colorado Department
of Health stating that at the present time we do not require a
NPDES permit and explanations why.
Also, we are listing all the other permits we have concerning
our operation.
a. M.S.H.A. Mine I.D. No. 05-02415•
b. Fugitive Dust Permit No. 1880-FD-0001.
c. Authority to Construct Permit No. C-10, 897.
d. NPDES No. CO-0036005, Rio Grande County.
We hope that this information will provide adequate answers to the seven
questions we received on March 6.
We have also included a copy of the public notice that will appear for
the first time in the Monte Vista Journal, Wednesday, March 14, 1979.
Very truly yours,
_T~~. ~
Thomas G.
