•
Through the use of the main sump being developed in conjunction with

the East Lease off of the 1st East ~4ain, it is expected that a certain amount ~
of sediment ~.vill be trapped in this sump 6e cause of the quality of the water- ~ -_-
to be pumped into it. The upper portion of the sump, or approximately 20
percent, will be partially filled by the ~,+ater and is, therefore, not expected
that sedimentation will occur in this area. Therefore, only 4.21 acre feet
will be used in calcu]ations for sedimentation. ,Allowing the sump to fill to
60 percent of full capacity •r+ould give us a volume of approximately 2.57 acre
r"eet. At 120 lbs/cu. ft for the density of the ~r:aterial, approximately 6,717
tons could be stored in the space available. (This density `figure is taken
from the specific gravity for clayey-sands at 1.9;.) Under normal operations
it is expected that 10 tons/hour of fines will be deposited in the sump by
particles setiling-out of the water.
At that rate, apprcximately 672 hours of deposition time is available.
•
Operating on a 14-hour workday, this ~++ould be equivalent to 4° operating days.
After the sediment has been trapped in the sump, it will be necessary to clean
the sump. This is expected to be done by the use of a Blusher. A Blusher
is a cable and hoist, pulling a plow or bucket. This cable will be installed
v+ith a sheave or pulley at the bottom of the eastern-most entry of Sump A.
The cable and sheave will be left in place so that the fine sediment can be
loaded out of the sump once each month or two as it is found to be needed.
The material will be transported outside and stockpiled near the working
stockoiTe and allowed to dry. It will then be mixed with the coal and shipped
'3'~' i ter.-u~. Mn'su,. ~.r4 ~" +4pN"2 a,f lu _.~ a -'
