The program is designed to collect sufficient
hydrologic data to adequately understand and describe the existing ground
and surface water systems in terms of water availability, quality and flow
characteristics. This information will be useful in determining suit-
ability of potential coal lease tracts for mining, mine permitting and
degree of control necessary in handling waste discharge and overburden
material.
The hydrologic phase of the exploration program was initiated by
the Bureau of Land Management and will be funded jointly by the BLM,
Colorado District - Water Resources Division ~WRD) and Getty. Getty will
conduct the planned exploration activities, including the hydrologic phase
of the program, under the rules and regulations stated in FCEL C-40288.
The WRD will be responsible for the monitor well completion, hydrologic
data collection and analyses.
The exact locations of the proposed thirteen monitor wells is
currently unknown due to the uncertain nature and extent of the major
aquifers, types of hydrologic conditions to be encountered and the need to
maintain a reasonable amount of field versatility to adequately define the
actual hydrologic conditions at Hart Syncline. The attached table entitled
"1985 Drill Hole Summary" outlines the intended 1985 drill holes, their
locations, the estimated depths and a preliminary hydrologic monitor well
designation.
