Mr. Carl Mount
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Tallier Gravel Pit Permit Application
September 21, 1998
RECEIVED
SFp 2 ~ ~`.,'.~
DIV. OF MINERALS
& GEOLOGY
We would like to clearly state our objection to the approval of the 112
pernnit application for the proposed Tallier Gravel Pit located on Routt
County Road 33A in Steamboat Springs. As adjacent property owners, the
approval of this application for the mining of construction materials (gravel)
would adversely effect our quality of life, and have adverse visual and
environmental impacts including as increase in noise level end a decrease in
air and possibly water quality. These impacts are not adequately.mitigated.
The reclamation plan is inadequate. We hope you seriously consider our
objections.
The following comments refer to the :submitted application dated June 24,
1998:
EXHIBTT A, Legal Description. The location of the gravel pit is
improperly described in this exhibit.
E?i~TT D, Mining Plan.
1. The mining period listed in this paragraph is 10 years, which is in
conflict with the period of 3 years listed in the Public Notice.
2. The statement regarding the depth of the. topsoil is inconsistent. It
is also inconsistent on how the topsoil will be used in reclamation.
It is inconsistent with the requirement of the Special Use Permit
{SUP) approved by the Routt County Board of Commissioners that
reclamation be performed on each successive 6 acres.
3. The use of the word overburden is inconsistent, sometimes
including topsoil and sometimes not. The use of the overburden as
stated in this paragraph will be used to backfill previous mine pits.
This is inconsistent with the application for the SUP submitted,
that states that some of the overburden will be sold.
4. The thickness of gravel to be mined stated in this paragraph is
upwards of 48 feet which is inconsistent with the SUP application
if
T~d 1c1053'J 8 INS 1C0HWFi31S Ez:TT B6, tz ~'~~
^~
ti'
^~
