• <br />VAUGHN DAWN-ARE GRAVEL PIT <br />frei•Y ~- <br />This site is located about 5.5 miles east of Hartsel, C lorado, <br />S~, NE}, Sec. 18, T12S, R74W. The area is nearly flat ith some <br />steep slopes to the northeast of the disturbed area. land use <br />has historically been grazing land. The pit size is abo t 3 acres. <br />Ew;~tr <br />SOILS <br />The soil at this site is a 22D. This mapping unit consi is of <br />shallow, loamy soils. They are gravelly and cobbly on t e surface <br />and throughout the profile. These soils occur on gently sloping to <br />strongly sloping slopes. They have developed on gravell and cobbly <br />outwash materials. They take water well, but have a lim ted water <br />holding capacity because of the high content of gravel a d cobble. <br />The elevation ranges from 8,650 to 9,000 feet. The annul precipita- <br />tion ranges from 12 to 17 inches. <br />Native vegetation occuring on this site consists of Ariz~na fescue, <br />Western wheatgrass, blue grama, Junegrass, mountain and limstem <br />muhly, fringe sage and other forbs and grasses. <br />This soil occurs on gently sloping to steep topography. It is an <br />inclusion in the Mountain Qutwash range site. <br />At the type location this soil is on a 1-2 percent slope facing <br />southeast. Elevation is approximately 8,740 feet. <br />Typifying pedon: Sandy loam <br />Al 0-4" Dark brown (7.5 yr 3/2) moist, sandy to <br />moderate fine granular structure; soft, <br />very friable; contains gravels; clear s <br />boundary, <br />AC 4-11" Dark brown (7.5 yr 3/4) moist, sandy to m; <br />moderate fine granular structure; this ayer <br />contains 15 to 20 percent gravels; soft very <br />friable; gradual and smooth boundary. <br />C 11"+ Brown (7.5 yr 4/3) moist, cobbly loamy and; <br />this layer contains 60 to 70 percent gr vel, <br />cobble, and stones. <br />
