VEGETATION

The proposed Pit Area I is presently a cultivated field seeded in
oats. Along the west side between the proposed Pit Area and the existing
pit is an undisturbed area separating the two pits, which is various in
width from 50 to 100 feet. It contains cottonwood trees, tamarack, willows
and wild rose bushes. This bank of vegetation extends along the north and
east side of the existing lake.
The proposed Pit Area II present vegetation consists mostly of weeds.
C~
J
Along the east side of the pit is a row of wild rose bushes along an
existing ditch bank which will remain undisturbed. A slew which borders
the pit on the west side has cattails and tamarack growing along the bank
which will be left undisturbed. Several large groups of cottonwood trees
exist on the north and west side of the pit area, and will remain.
The existing pit area east of 23 Road was a cultivated field when
excavated. Vegetation and weeds are beginning to reestablish themselves
along the banks.
The existing Pit Area west of 23 Road has been seeded along the south
bank with a mixture of Sodar Streambank wheatgrass, Fairway wheatgrass,
Jose tall wheatgrass and alkali sacation. The vegetation along the south
bank has established itself quite well. The north bank of the existing pit
was left undisturbed, and contains cottonwood trees, tamarack, willows and
wild rose bushes.
