SF materials were placed in horizontal lifts typically not exceeding 2 feet
. in loose thickness. A Caterpillaz CS563C roller provided compactive effort, while a Caterpillaz water
wagon provided moisture conditioning when needed or required. If the workings were verified as shallow, a Cat D7
dozer and a Cat 563 roller would backfill the excavations and compact the shaft back to grade with
SF. Otherwise, the shaft was left open for "Deep Shaft" remediation to be performed later.
Ames performed cleazing and grubbing of topsoil and removed trees. A Cat D7 and a Cat 330 track-
hoe removed trees and stripped topsoil from the southwestem azea of Phase IVb. Topsoil and slash
were piled Locally for relocation at a later date.
Ames conduced confirmation dril]ing on known underground workings UG-202, 203, 216, and the
Ophir Tunnel.
Ames began to excavate azound the retaining wall at the Cazlton Mill.
