Long
Divivon Direcmr
Page 2 has a section for cc: to any state or federal landowners. No
agencies are listed. A letter from the Arapaho National Forest District
Ranger dated May 21, 1993 (copied by the Division to Mr. Bisgard and to
Tuttle Applegate, Inc.) indicates that part of the proposed permit area
may be within the Arapaho National Forest. Does any part of the proposed
permit area lie within the National Forest?
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
The proposed post-mining land use is rangeland.
believe this use is appropriate. The area has
used for range (see Summit County Letter of June
little forage value for cattle. Also, under the
vegetation will be reestablished on the site, of
be for range?
The Division does not
Sot historically been
16, 1993) and offers
reclamation plan no
what value will the site
The application states that the plan does not propose to create wildlife
habitat, but under the "wildlife" section it is stated that some species
may be temporarily displaced but are expected to reestablish with no
difficulty after mining and reclamation has been completed. Without some
vegetation wildlife reestablishment will be difficult.
The Arapaho National Forest District Ranger commented in his letter of
May 21, 1993 that there is potential for fisheries restoration and
possible reintroduction of the Colorado cutthroat trout in the
Swan River. Also, in the wildlife statement submitted by Alex Chappell
dated May 21, 1993 it was recommended that the area be seeded for native
grasses to benefit elk. Summit County also strongly supports
revegetating the site for wildlife habitat.
