The gravel pit will disturb an area approx-
imately 8 acres in size. It is on the north side of the highway (see sheet 1 of
2). The expected life of the pit is about 10 years. The depth of the pit may
vary between 5 and 30 feet deep. A power line runs across the northwest corner
of the site. No supplemental water will be available for revegetation. The
landowner for the proposed gravel pit is Olga Hill of Krermnling. The present
landuse is livestock grazing.
INFORMATION PROVIDED: Following are description 4, interpretations, and recormnend-
a ions or a proposed gravel pit concerning soil and vegetative data,
Exhibit I- Soils Information (see sheet 2 of 2)
1) 81- Tine Gravelly Sandy Loam, 0-3A slopes. This deepy well drained,
nearly Level to gently sloping soi is oun on fans and terraces. It formed
in alluvial outwash, The average annual precipitation is 12-15 inches and
the frost free season is about 3$-75 .days.
The Tine soil has a surface layer of brown gravelly sandy loam about llt
inches thick. The upper 9 inches of the underlying material is pale brown
very:cobbly loatrly sand. The lower part is extremely cobbly sand that extends
to 60 inches or more.
The available water holding capacity is low, Permeability is rapid,
Surface runoff is slow and the erosion hazard is slight.
2) 82- Tine Cobbly Sandy Loam, 3-15~ slopes, This soil is the same as above
with the exception of its erosion hazard which is moderate, and the slopes
on which it is found which are steeper.
A "fair" rating is given to both of these soils for use as gravel con-
struction materials and "poor" for topsoil. The reaction is neutra]. to
mildly alkaline through out.
Exhibit J- Vegetation Information
The predominant grasses on the proposed gravel pit site are Hlue Grams
and Pearded Wheatgrass with traces of Western Wheatgrass and Junegrass.
The low shrubs, Sagebrush and Rabbitbrush, are abundant on this site.
Forbs occuring in lesser amounts are Phlox, Fleabane, and Ball Cactus.
Vegetation is relatively evenly distributed over the site and becomes
thicker in the two draws on the site.
0
