Mr : Bi Y.i F/e2Birff
Page -2-
March 30, 1982

~ hdVe @9@pl@t@ly ~®Vl®wBd dl1 the various exhibit items that you have submitted
tB BUY tivision to date. i still have several questions and comments that I have
organized on an exhibit-by-exhibit basis below. Any exhibits or parts thereof not
mentioned are considered adequate for Board consideration at this time.
Exhibits B & C
1. Presumably, not that the permit area has been defined to be 600' x 600',
that distance will be the extent of the operation to the west a~d.sovth (as
opposed to 900' in each direction). Please clarify this matter.
2. The treatment of topsoil remaining on the site should be more clearly out-
lined. The correct soils map for this site should be copied and the permit area
outlined on it. The description of the soils thus shown to be in the permit area
should also be submitted. The depth of topsoil to be removed from undisturbed
areas can then be estimated. The proposed location for the future topsoil
stockpile can then be specified or shown on the map in Exhibit C. This topsoil
should be protected from mining operations and be stabilized from wind erosion
with a perennial grass cover crop ( to be suggested by the Soil Conservation
Service). In order to be able to do adequate revegetation of this site, all
remaining topsoil must be saved and protected.
3. The proposed location of the crusher should be described and/or shown on
the map.
4. Will product stockpiles now in existence be removed before new material is
mined or in an ongoing manner as the mining progresses?
Exhibit D
1. Water Resources - Wi11 any water be used in this operation for dust
control and/or processing? If it will, what will be the industrial use water
right available to provide this water?
2. Vegetation and Soils -
a. Please reference my comments concerning topsoil under Exhibits B
6 C, number 2.
b. Please review the material referenced by the Soil Conservation
Service and send a copy of the description of the vegetation and soils.
(I have enclosed a copy of their letter to you and underlined the materials
needed
Frhihih F
1. On March 25, 1982, you mentioned to me that the landowner, Mr. Clench,
wishes to use the completed pit bottom as a Iambjng area and corral for his
sheep. Please provide our Division with a more detailed outline of this
planned future Land use. It may be appropriate to only retopsoil and revegetate
the sides of the pit and not the bottom, if this is the intended use. Considering
the limited amount of topsoil available, this might allow more topsoil to be used
on the sides of the pit in order to promote revegetation there.
