Production will not 6e evaluated in the shrub and tree established sites. These sites are
intended primarily as woody plant establishment sites. These areas will be treated to •
reduce herbaceous competition for increased woody plant survival.
Herbaceous production for the shrub grassland type in the mine area will be evaluated for
reclamation success by comparing the weighted production value determined from the
extended reference area vegetation types described under cover to the reclaimed area
herbaceous production value. The weighted herbaceous production value will be determined
by taking the herbaceous production value for each reference area type and multiplying it
by the acreage occupied 6y that type in the premining surface area. The products of each
type will be added and then divided by the acreage total of the reference area types in
the premining surface area to arrive at the weighted value. Reclamation success for
herbaceous production shall be met when the value of the reclaimed area is at least 90
percent of the herbaceous production standard with 90 percent statistical confidence. The
following weighted formula will be used to evaluate rev eg et at ion success for herbaceous
production:
(SBa) (zSB) + (MBa) (icNB) + (Aa) (icA)
x` > .90
REV Ta
with 90 percent statistical confidence
where:
XREV ' Average herbaceous produeti on for revegeteted area
SBa = Sagebrush type acreage, premining surface area
NBa = Mixed brush type acreage, premining surface area
Aa = Aspen type acreage, premining surface area
zSB = Average reference area herbaceous production - sagebrush type
zRB = Average reference area herbaceous production - mixed brush type
xA = Average reference area herbaceous production - aspen type
Te = Total of relative community type acreages, premining surface area.
Revegetation suceess for production in the reclaimed mesic drainage type will be evaluated
by compering a weighted mean herbaceous production value determined from undisturbed
portions of the mesic drainage end improved pasture-subirrigated premine types. The areas
previously occupied by this latter type will be reclaimed to a mesic drainage type. The
method of weighting end comparison is similar to that described under cover for the mesic •
drainage type. Herbaceous production from the reclaimed area will be compared to the
weighted mean value.
42 Revised 06/19/95
