SAFETY PROCEDURE .F OR INSTALLING TEMPORARY SUPPORT 1. Only persons engaged in installing temporary support will • be allowed to proceed beyond the last permanent support unti] such temporary supports are installed. 2. a. Timber posts or props used as temporary or permanent support will be installed tight on solid footing, and at least one, but not more. than two, wooden wedges will be used to install a post. b. Posts installed under roof that is cracked, broken, or susceptible to sloughing shill have a wooden cap block, plank, or Crossbar between the post and the roof. 3. All metal jacks will be installed with a cap block between the jack and the roof unless a Dearing plate (of not less than 36 square inches) is provided. 4. Where loose material is beinc taken down, a minimum of two temporary supports on not more than five-foot centers will be installed between the workmen and the material beino taken down unless such work can be none from an area ade- • quately supported by permanent roof supports. 5. Where bolts are being replaced in isolated instances (such as where equipment has knocked bol*_s loose) and the loca- tion is greater than five feet from. a face, rib, or anoth- er bolt, one temporary support shall be installed within a radius of 2 feet from each bolt to be replaced. 6. Where crossbars or root bolts are being installed in an area where rDOf failure is indicated, a minimum of one row of temporary supports shall be instilled on not more than 5 foot centers acress the place, unless the A?5 System is deployed, so [hdt the work it Groaress is done between the installed temporary supports and adequate permanent sup- ports in sound roof. 7.
