SAFETY PROCEDURE .F OR INSTALLING TEMPORARY SUPPORT <br />1. Only persons engaged in installing temporary support will <br />• be allowed to proceed beyond the last permanent support <br /> unti] such temporary supports are installed. <br />2. a. Timber posts or props used as temporary or permanent <br /> support will be installed tight on solid footing, and <br /> at least one, but not more. than two, wooden wedges <br /> will be used to install a post. <br /> b. Posts installed under roof that is cracked, broken, <br /> or susceptible to sloughing shill have a wooden cap <br /> block, plank, or Crossbar between the post and the <br /> roof. <br />3. All metal jacks will be installed with a cap block between <br /> the jack and the roof unless a Dearing plate (of not less <br /> than 36 square inches) is provided. <br />4. Where loose material is beinc taken down, a minimum of two <br /> temporary supports on not more than five-foot centers will <br /> be installed between the workmen and the material beino <br /> taken down unless such work can be none from an area ade- <br />• quately supported by permanent roof supports. <br />5. Where bolts are being replaced in isolated instances (such <br /> as where equipment has knocked bol*_s loose) and the loca- <br /> tion is greater than five feet from. a face, rib, or anoth- <br /> er bolt, one temporary support shall be installed within a <br /> radius of 2 feet from each bolt to be replaced. <br />6. Where crossbars or root bolts are being installed in an <br /> area where rDOf failure is indicated, a minimum of one row <br /> of temporary supports shall be instilled on not more than <br /> 5 foot centers acress the place, unless the A?5 System is <br /> deployed, so [hdt the work it Groaress is done between the <br /> installed temporary supports and adequate permanent sup- <br /> ports in sound roof. <br />7. Where falls have occurred and at all overcasts and other <br /> construction sites that require removal of mine roof mate- <br /> rial, the roof will be considered unsupported.
