SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR ATS SYSTEHS <br /> <br />1, Automated Tert~porary Support <br />a) When roof drills with ATS are used, temporary supports (jacks or <br />timber pO6C6) will not be used except when mechanical failure of the <br />ATS prevents its deployment. The provisions of (b) then apply. <br />b) When it is determined that roof drills without ATS are to be used, <br />temporary roof support (jacks or timber posts) will be installed (on <br />no more than five-foot centers) immediately. <br /> <br />2, a) Except on electrical roof bolters, [he ATS system will be plated <br />firmly against the roof before bolter operator proceeds inby perma- <br />nent support. <br />b) A check valve or eouivalent protection will be incorporated in [he <br />ATS system to eliminate the danger of collapse through sudden loss <br />of hydraulic fluid from a broken hose. <br />c) Except on electrical roof bolters, the roof bolter operators will <br />no[ drill holes or install bolts: <br />1) beyond the inby beam of the ATS system unless the distance be- <br />tween the coal face and this beam is equal to or less than <br />five (5) feet; and <br />2) to the left or right of the outer roof contact points unless <br />the coal rib or a temporary support is within five (S) feet of <br />these contacts. <br /> <br />3. No place shall be left standing over a weekend or any other extended peri- <br />od (48 hours) without a[ least one (1) row of temporary supports installed <br />on not more than 5-foot centers placed across the opening and a "DANGER" <br />sign provided to warn persons of an unsupported area. <br />4.
