I,
' Once mining is completed in the East Pit, approximately
two million tons of waste rock from the West Pit will be
~i ' disposed in the East Pit. The waste disposal in the East Pit
i is discussed in detail in Section D.3.
D.2.4 West Pit Mine Plan
Approximately six to 12 months after mining commences
' in the East Pit, clearing will begin in the West Pit. Mining
in the West Pit will also occur in an irregular ~:onfiguration
with series of regular benches and highwalls mixed with areas
' of relatively flat wide benches. In most cases, the bench
highwall configuration will have a maximum height gain of 45
' ft between the wide flat benches. The pit configuration for
the West Pit is shown on Figure C-4.
' Exhibit G contains a description of proposed dewatering
for the ore zone aquifer. Dewatering will only be necessary
in the West Pit area. Dewatering will be accomplished by the
installation of two dewatering wells in the West Pit area.
Water will be pumped from the wells to maintain the water below
the level of the active mining operations in the ore zone
' aquifer. Additional wells may be installed as necessary to
maintain water levels below the active mining operations.
' Mining in the west pit area will require relocation of
the county road. The road relocation is shown on Figure C-2.
The road relocation has been approved by the County. The County
authorization letter is included as Appendix 0.
' D.2.5 Pit Wall Stability
Due to the variety of rock types which will be
' encountered in mining the East and West Pits, and the closeness
of the Rito Seco to the pits, a pit wall stability study was
conducted throughout both pit areas. The study determined at
' D-7 (Revised 4/"l_O/89)
