' Equipment selection for the San Luis Project has not been
finalized. Battle Mountain currently expects to use dozers,
loaders and 85 ton capacity haul trucks for excavation,
loading, and material transport of the ore/waste. Soil removal
' will most likely be accomplished using dozers, loaders, and
85 ton or smaller capacity haul trucks.
D
2
.
.2 Site Description
' The East Pit will encompass approximately 20 acres and
mine to a bottom elevation of approximately 8,690 msl. The West
' Pit will encompass approximately 110 acres. The bottom
elevation of the West Pit will lie at approximatel y 8,420 msl.
1 The West Pit will intercept the existing county road
necessitating road relocation.
' The main soil complex present in the pit area is the
Comodore-Blackhall complex. This complex is a stony loam with
' some areas of rock outcrops. The main vegetation type is pinyon
juniper woodland. Complete discussions of project area soil
' and vegetation are contained in Exhibits I and J, respectively.
D.2.3 East Pit Mine Plan
Mining will begin in the East Pit area. The East Pit will
i be mined to the maximum limits within the first several years
of operation. The pit design fcr the East Pit is included as
t Figure C-3. As can be seen from Figure C-3, mining will occur
in a somewhat irregular configuration with some areas of
' typical bench-highwall configuration and some areas of wide
gently sloped benches. Approximately 1.5 million tons of ore
' and 1.8 million tons of waste will be removed from the east
pit.
I,
i
D-6 (Revised 4/20/89)
