Associated with the heap leach facilities is a small
borrow area southwest of the leach pad. The borrow area
contains relatively clean sandy soils suitable for use in the
secondary recovery system.

D.7.2 Site Description

The
eap leach facility is located southwest of the mine
pit area, south of the Rito Seco, and just south and
' immediately downgradient from the saddle area uF~on which the
process area will be situated. The total area impacted by this
facility is approximately 63 acres.
' Natural ground slopes at this site vary from near
horizontal to 4H:1V. The average slope in the area is between
' five and 10 percent. Vegetation is characteristic of the

During June and July 1988, a total of seven test pits
' were excavated in the leach pad and mill process area. Three
boreholes were also drilled in this area. Logs for the test
pits and boreholes, as well as an exploration location map are
' contained in Appendix C. Standpipe piezometers were installed
in boreholes BH-6 and BH-8 as part of the field exploration
program. The completion details for these piezometers are
included in Appendix E. A geotechnical laboratory testing
' program was completed on selected samples taken from the test
pits and boreholes. The results of the laboratory testing
' program are included in Appendix D.
Based on the results of the subsurface exploration
program and the geotechnical laboratory program, the subsurface
1 profile in the vicinity of the heap leach facil~ty consists
of relatively deep deposits of alluvial sediments, composed
predominantly of poorly consolidated silty and gravelly sands
