Mr. Brian Peters - 2 - May 9, 1984
3. Given the geometry of this pit, it may be possible to do some concurrent
reclamation (especially of some pit wall slopes). Why is this not practical?
4. Please clarify your plans concerning compaction of backsloped areas. Some
compaction is valuable to ensure surface stability. Too much may cause
infiltration problems. Sometimes, surface ripping of compacted areas is necessary
as apart of seedbed preparation.
5. Please reference my comments above concerning protection of the road and the
Jd;tch in final reclamation and clarify your plans as concerns these structures.
Exhibit G
J 1. Reference my comments above concerning the protection of the irrigation ditch.
2. Is all drainage during the mining and reclamation of the pit to be
internalized to the pit? This is a good idea to reduce any off-site sedimentation
or erosion problems.
Exhibit I
1. Is the soil type described the only soil found on the entire permit area?
Please note that all soil types should be described and their locations shown on a
map.
Exhibit J
1. The Rules and Regulations for applications for regular permits require
estimates of cover for the dominant species of vegetation presently occurring on
site, rather than merely a species list. I suggest that you go back to the S.C.S.
and request this information for the specific permit area that is to be mined.
Their CO-EC5-2 form may provide this information for our purposes.
Exhibit N
1. Will a fugitive dust permit for this operation be required from the Colorado
Department of Health? If you do not know, I suggest you consult with the
Department of Health and then inform us as to the status of any necessary
applications to them.
I have tried to be as comprehensive as possible in this letter so as to minimize
our necessary correspondence. Please feel free to call me if I can clarify any
portions of this letter.
Sincerely,
~ ~.
Mark S. Loye
Senior Reclamation Specialist
MSL/ygt
Doc.
