i', • P age 4
2. The Agricultural Conservation people and the Soil
onservation people have had programs for years to help
people develop and tAus provide better water for their
pastures. Several of our bigger ranches put in their own
extensive pipelines. Many others have ,out in systems with
the help of the Government programs. I had about 4 mi~.es
of pipeline on my ranch in addition in addition to two deep
pits designed to catch runoff of heavy rains. When full
these pits would hold water for two to four years. Any
livestock man in this area will do all he czn do to utilize
and develop as widespread a system of watering as he can
because it provides a much more efficient use of pasture.
So if a rancher requeats that we leave a water hole we will
try to do it even though the pit water holes are usually
shallow and dry up in dry years.
Very truly yours,
"1 ,
i ~' ~ _,
~,=
J . Pe. Owen
