Cage c
= ` •
2. Depth of Mining I will try to provide this information
in both exhibit B and exhibit C.
3. sporadic Use. All of the permits being applied for are
for mines that will be used less than 180 days per year,
and nose will supply more than 70,000 tons of material
per year.No ne are being used in new construction, all'are
used in normal maintenance. Even though the pits are used
only a few weeks in each year they will all be considered
an active pit.
4. Topsoil Lincoln County will make every effort to save
the topsoil from any new parts of existing pits. In any new
pitall of the topsoil will be saved. I know of no area where
the depth of the topsoil would allow for leaving any.
In these gravel pit areas it is thinner than it is on the
regular farm and pasture lands. I doubt if the county could
go out and buy topsoil. I have never heard of any one wanting
to sell any. Leith the exception of the creek bottom gravel
sources these pits usually have an underlying layer of adobe
and clay which will sustain plant life when fertilized.
5. Flanned depth cf topsoil removal. Addressed in previous
paragraph.
~. stream channel extraction. I think we have only one
application where we nave a stream Chanel with any topsoil
and it will be address ed in the ammending of the application.
It is not our policy to leave product stockpiles for any
length of time, particularly in or near a stream bed. Stock-
piles are left occassionally when the maintenance men know
t at trey are coming back for more gravel within a short time.
i.e. Three of four weeks, when it would be inconvenient to
bring any machinery except a loader.
Exhibit L - i~iap
1. I have been studying your comments about exact permit
areas. I see that i have not been giving exact locations
of ti.e area to be permitted. ++ithout going to the expense
of hiring a surveyor I will try to request a permit area that
can be measured in feet from known landmarks, such as section
linesline fences or county roads. I have also gone to the
ASi, office and found tY.at for many of these areas they have
recently flown and developed new photographic mans. The
gravel pits snow plainly on these maps most of the time.
They are able to measure the disturbed areas with their
numonic planimeter. My ammended exhibitx will show these
measured acres, and the area to be permitted will be sl-:own
on the scaled drawing witi. dimendions.
2. Directional Arrows. These will be provided.
