• D. REVECETATED AREA5
D,1. Introduction
D.1.1. Scheduling activities in liability yeriod
i!e expect to revegetate 20 to 50 acres annually, but can not ,iustify fencing
and managing rangeland in such small parcels. Consequently, xe propose to
accumulate 160 to 400 acres before fencing and proceeding xith proof of
success. The most recent seeding to be included in a fenced area x111 have
completed five gmxing seasons xithout grazing. After fencing, the revegeta-
ted and reference areas will be grazed in txo consecutive years, then will
be protected from grazing in txo consecutive years to permit final measure-
ment of success. This procedure fulfills the regulation at 4.15.~(3)(f),
which states that "During at least the last two full years of the extended
liability period, the reference area(s) and revegetated area(s) shall receive
• the same management." Hoxever, xe aote conflict with 4,1$.5(1). xhich
requires grazing ", ,for at least the last ttro full years of the
liability period." To fulfill the requirements and provide the best possible
measurement of success, we hope to avid the use of caged plots in the last
two years by grazing in previous years and by adoption of the aimulated-
grazing alternative of 4,15.5(1). For cross reference to times of treatment
and sampling as described belox, xe identify the last seven years of the
liability period as Y4 through Y10.
D.1.2. Activities in years Y4, YS and Y6
Restricted interseeding or transplanting, repair of rills and gullies, and
used control activities must be completed in Y4 and Y5, Consequently, we
rill measure sandsage density to determine possible need for traasplanting
and conduct a search for erosion and other problems in Y4. Remedial work
• rill be initiated as required. In Y5 xe rill initiate the demonstration

12'
