The question is considered <br />here because people often want to consider alternatives, <br />especially those that might have lasting values and pro- <br />duce spin-off benefits in applied technology. The alter- <br />native considered is that of replacing forage lost by <br />improving adjacent ranges. We think the prospects of <br />improving adjacent ranges by weed control and fertili- <br />zation is very good. The technologies needed are known, <br />but methods and materials should be examined in plot <br />trials to determine appropriate rates and cost effective- <br />ness. Section 36, which is state owned but grazed under <br />lease in alternate years, would provide an excellent <br />location for such trials.
