D EXHIBIT 1 -6, RECLAMATION PLAN
1 . Top soil to be replaced as benches are made, up to
two inches deep, and sown, ('see u.nder .:(d•) , method) .
2 . The limestone formation to be mined is mostly in a solid
block with very tight seams, and thus can sustain a steep
slope. Benches are proposed to be five feet wide with a
45° slope to the next bench. Each slope of each benched
area is proposed to be 20 feet high. Soil and mulch cover
on all reclaimed areas that are flat of gentle in slope
would be up to six inches deep, which is consistent with
the present cover. Many of the present slopes are steeper
than the 45° slopes proposed in the mining plan. Each
phase of plan would follow the five-year plan of Rule 6.
Mining would begin from the top elevations down, and from
north to south.
3 . Measures taken to revegetate:
(a) Plant growth medium to be 2 to 6 inches deep, which
is ". . .at least equal in extent of cover to the
natural vegetation of the surrounding area. " Seeding
to be consistent with Rule 6. 5 ( 1 ) .
(b) Seed will be plowed and/or raked as areas become avail-
able for revegetation. Fertilizer not needed.
(c) Revegetation will be done in stages as benches are
made. Native grasses and shrubs and trees will natural-
ly invade the areas where topsoil is reapplied.
Following is a list of the native species:
Grasses: "The primary grasses are Mountain Muhly
(Muhlenbergia montana) , Needleandthread
( Sti a comata and S. vivipara) ,and Arizona
Fescue (Festuca arizonica) . Forbs are
strongly dominated by Kinnikinick along with
other 'wildflowers ' including Indian Paint-
brush (Castillegia sp. ) , Wild Rose (Rosa
woodsii ) , Fringed Sage (Artemisia fri ida) ,
Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia ) .
Shrubs : The primary shrubs are Mountain Mahogany
(Cercocarpus montanus ) , Cinquefoil (Potentilla
fruticosa ) , and Tamarix Juniper (Juniperus
sabina tamariscifolia) .
6
