Species Identification:
Voucher specimens were collected and confirmed or identified by William
Weber, retired Curator of the University of Colorado herbarium. Nomenclature
follows Dr. Weber's book Colorado Flora: Western Slopg 1987 Colorado Associated
Universi Press Boulder. Co.
Statistical Evaluation:
The calculation of sample adequacy and the disturbed community -reference
area comparison of total cover followed methods outlined on pages 15 and 17 of the
Division's Vegetation Guidelines.
•
RESULTS
1. Reclaimed Community
Table 2 summarizes data collected in the reclaimed mine areas. Sixteen
transects were sampled. Total vegetative cover combined to be 44.1%, similar to the
1991 value of 46.2% (see Conclusions section of 1991 report). Eight perennial grass
species, five perennialforb species, one biennialforb species, one noxious weed
species, and tlu•ee shrub species were encountered during sampling. These life forms
contributed 45.9%, 45.0%, 1.7%, 0.3%, and 7.1 % of the total vegetative cover.
Thus, 98.0% (or 43.3% absolute cover) of the vegetative cover is contributed by
•
6
