i •
completely reclaimed (completion of all grading, topsoil
replacement, seeding, and achievement of revegetation success)
prior to disturbing a subsequent 5 acre gravel extraction phase,
this should be so stated in the application. An accurate
determination of the maximum area to be disturbed at any one point
in time is essential for accurate bond calculations of phased
mining operations.
5. Reclamation Plan and Map
Although the Division understands that it is not possible to
determine at the present time the exact postmining topography of
the area to be mined since the depth of the gravel resource is not
precisely known, it is essential that a "best guess" of the
anticipated postmining topographic contours be depicted on the
reclamation plan map in order to provide a graphic representation
of what the area will look like after all reclamation work is
completed. The contours should reflect the 3:1 slope created along
the eastern boundary of the permit area blending into a 3X slope
along the remainder of the reclaimed area.
Please contact me at the Durango Field Office if you have any
questions. The Division will calculate a bond amount once
responses to the comments provided above have been received.
Sincerely,
i///~~
Tom Gillis
finvironmental Protection Specialist
/tdg
a:m108adg2.
3
