9. The applicant states that the pit will be mined in three phases. Please indicate these
phases on the exhibit(s), note the direction of mining and state the size of area to be
worked at any one time.
A map showing the approrimate location of the three phases is attached. As we
discussed on site, phase 3 may never be mined if sufficient material exists for the
project in the other portions of the pit.
10. Rule 3.1.9(3) requires that topsoil stockpiles be stored in places and configurations to
min;mi~P erosion and be located in areas where disturbance by ongoing operations will
be minimized. In accordance with Rule 3.1.9(1), topsoil and overburden must be
segregated and stored separately. Please revise the exhibits to depict the location of the
topsoil piles.
Topsoil stoclgPiles wilt be built in the most convenient areas to be oat of the way
during mining. The approximate location of the stockpiles is shown on the attached
map. Mr. Orr plans primarily to posh the topsoil to the outside edges of the pit
boundary on the north and the west as that area is mined. Topsoil will not be stored
with other overburden at the site. Since much of the material will be used for
building roads, little to no overburden is anticipated
11. Please inform the Division as to how topsoil piles will be protected to prevent wind
and water erosion to include the dimensions of the piles sad a temporary seed mixture. If
a seed mixture is proposed, please stet the rate in PLS/acre, application method and
timing of seeding.
Topsoil stockpiles will be seeded with grass seed after a sufficient pile is in hand to
require cover. The species recommended by the NRCS by phone was brome grass.
The seed will be broadcast and sown daring the months of November through
March.
12. The applicant notes that the pit is adjacent to a gravel pit operated by Logan County
Road and Bridger (the Schumacher Gravel Pit, Pennit No M-1995-063). Please state
howmining and r~lamation plan will impact the Logan County Pit. In particular, please
state if the pits will eventually join, or will be separated by a set buffer distance.
The Schumacher #3 Pit will have little to no impact on the Logan County Pit The
boundaries of the two pits do butt up against each other. As agreed at the on-site
visit, the area between the two permits will be mined through, rather than leaving a
slope on our south boundary and one on their north boundary. This is Mr, Jeff
Schumacher's desire. He is the Iand owner of both pits. A revised "Snal rnntonr
map" reflects this change. Previous information from the Logan County Pit permit
file indicated that a pipeline was in existence immediately north of their pit, bat Jeff
Schumacher has informed us that that pipeline has been removed.
4
