RESPONSE:
• Coal reserves will not be mined at Mine No. 3, this section is no
longer applicable.
As described under Rules 2.05.2 and 2.05.3(1), Colorado Yampa Coal
proposes to mine the remaining strip reserves at Mine No. 3 utilizing the
area strip mining method. All topsoil has been removed from the area to be
mined and the in-place overburden will be shot. Overburden greater than 40
feet in depth within the mine area will be removed with a loader/truck
operation. The initial boxcut will be opened in the deepest overburden on
the west side of the pit area. The material from this cut will be hauled to
a temporary overburden pile, as shown on Map 6, Mine Plan. After the coal
is removed from the boxcut, it will be backfilled with the overburden from
the next cut. This sequence will continue up the hill until the overburden
thickness decreases to less than 40 feet. At this point, the overburden
will be stripped with dozers rather than with the loader/truck combination.
The same mining sequence is then used with the overburden being pushed back
• into the previous cut after coal removal, as shown on Map 10, Spoils Grading
Plan.
Coal will be removed using the same equipment utilized in overburden
removal. Once the coal is uncovered, the dozers will rip the coal seam in
preparation for loading with a front-end loader into coal haulage trucks.
The coal will be hauled to a temporary storage area, as shown on Map 6, Mine
Plan and then transported by contracted highway haulers to Colorado Yampa
Coal's tipple located at Mine No. 1.
•
PRA 2.05-6 Revised 3/14/89
J
