Page 3
Bed thickness in some areas will be too thin to carry
` the full width of the heading, so a method called split-
shooting will be used. This involves removing the waste
first by drilling, blasting, and mucking, and then repeating
the process for the ore.
VENTILATION. DUST, AND RADIATION CONTROL
Initially, an incast fan of thirty horsepocver will be
utilized to force air down the decline through thirty-inch
vent tubing with the air exhausting back out the decline.
As the decline is advanced, additional ventilation will be
added as needed. Once the decline is bottomed, a 48-inch
diameter escapeway ventilation raise will be reamed and
50,000 cfm of air will be incast to the various development
headings.
Periodically the ventilation will be evaluated and
upgraded by the addition of fans and upreamed ventilation
raises.
There will be three ways of controlling radiation in
this mine. They are as follows:
1. Ventilation for diluting and exhausting
the radon gas out of the mine.
2. Developing the drifts in barren rock
wherever possible, thus eliminating
exposure to radiation.
3. Retreat mining, thus having the open stopes
away from the latest stope, thus having no
ventilation passing through stopes to the
working areas.
• To supplement these methods of controlling radon, a
continous monitoring program will be initiated at the start-
up of operations, and records vrill be kept in accordance with
ME5A and State regulations.
