Page 2
The General Soils Map of Montrose County indicates the
• JD-9 property lies within two soils associations: the
Haplargids-Torriorthents-Rock outcrop association, des-
cribed as "vrarm, deep to shallow, well drained, gently
sloping and moderately steep soils and rock outcrop on
mesas, benches, and canyons", and the Torriorthents-Rock
outcrop association, "warm, shallovr, well drained, sloping
to steep soils and rock outcrop on breaks and canyons".
An on-site inspection reveals a thin gravelly clay loam
towards the Bull Canyon Rim behind the portal, and a
deeper (6 to 10 inches) sandy to sandy loam soil to the
south-southwest, down the hillside.

Reference: Water & Related Land Resources; Dolores
River Basin; Colorado and Utah. A report
based on a cooperative study by the
Colorado Water Conservation Board and the
United States Department of Agriculture,
prepared by the Economic Research Service,
Forest Service, and Soil Conservation
Service. Denver, Colorado; September 1972.
