STATE OF COLORADO •
Richard D. Lamm, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURALRESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
James B. Ruch, Director
8080 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 80218
Telephone: 13031297.1192
12 May 1987
Mr. David A. Berry
Bureau of Mined Land Reclamation
423 Centennial Bldg
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Case No. M-87-049; Bromley Lakes
Dear Mr. Berry,
~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII111

r1,AY 141987
[~ECt_AMATtOt~ L'IIVIS!E1°+1
The above referenced application has been reviewed and a site
inspection performed. The Division offers the following suggestions.
As suggested in the mining plan reclamation of the area should
/ be phased to coincide with completion of each phase of the mining
process. Reclamation should include plans for an irregular, undulating
shoreline with bays and peninsulas. Backfill of the property including
shoreline should include plans to utilize topsoil stored from the
premining phase to maximize the success of revegetation.
For maximum fisheries potential the bottom of each lake should
b~ contoured in an irregular manner through use of a dragline.
6'reation of underwater canyons provide increased feeding areas and
excellent fisheries habitat. Depths of each lake should vary somewhat
and should not exceed 25 feet.
Impacts to mature woody species such as cottonwoods should be
avoided if possible, however unavoidable impacts should be timed
so as not to disrupt any ongoing nesting of avian species especially
raptors. Generally, impacts should he timed to avoid the period
of February through July. Any mature trees so impacted should be
inventoried and considered for replacement in the reclamation plan.
Applicants list of trees and shrubs appears fairly inclusive
however the Division recommends applicant utilize species from the
following list. The species listed are deemed most beneficial to
wildlife. Additionally, applicant should avoid the use of evergreens
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, David H.
