very heavy. Natural dustfall at the site is almost
certainly less than 20 tons/mi2/mo.
Gaseous Pollutants . No data are available on concentrations
of gaseous pollutants at the site. Such concentrations are
undoubtedly low however. The only 'sources of pollution
likely to effect the site are the Boulder metropolitan area -
and U.S. Highway 36. Pollutants likely to be present are
primarily vehicle emissions : carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons
and nitrogen oxides .
Prevailing winds, based on limited monitoring at the site
• and more extensive measurements east of Boulder, are from
south to southwest, west, and northeast. None of these,
with the exception of west winds , are from pollution sources
toward the site. It is expected that detectable quantities
of automotive pollutants exist on the site when winds are
from west through north or north-northeast, or during calm
stagnation conditions when pollutants accumulate in the
Boulder valley. However, it is unlikely that standards are
ever exceeded or even threatened anywhere on the site except
adjacent to U.S. Highway 36.
•
Future Air Quality. Two opposing factors will influence
air quality at the site in the future, disregarding
G-6
