Dni Fa ces: mul ti ply cna ratter tools, Type II D. FOUr Speclmen5 (Fig. 9e, q). Description: they are irregularly Shaped flakes with two or more edge types (convex, concave, straight), and varying size and shape. Material: chert. Edge angles: concave edges 65°-80°, and convex edges 35°-65°. Edge wear: heavy step flaking and polish on convex edges. Size range: (complete specimens), Length, 71-126 mm.; width, 30- 59 mm.; and thickness, 10-14 mm, ~• Special notes: the tools in this category contain multiple charac- teristics, and are otherwise idiosyncratic compared to the rest of the uniface tool catagory. The most noteworthy member of this category is a large flake scraper which incorporates a variety of intentionally worked edges. A marked constriction occurs roughly ', of the distance from the striking platform to the distal edge of the flake, which has steep retouch on the concave areas. The left side has a wide radius, while the right has a much tighter curve which might have served as a con- cave scraper. The lateral edges are much flatter and have minor re- touch present. The right-hand edge is fairly straight and might have been used as a cutting edge. The other complete specimen is made on a prismatic flake, with a convex and concave working edge on the side near the distal end of the flake. There is evidence of utilization on the unmodified edge op- posite the worked edge areas. Correlations with other sites: 48PL123, IJorth Platte River site (Mul- loy and Steege 19G7). Unifaces: fragments. Nine fragments wire recovered, which were too incomplete to categorize other than to identify as fragments of uni- face tools. They hold little diagnostic value other than indicating the use of such tools at a particular location. Edge angles on the fragments range from 50°-80°, which falls in the range of the other uniface tools recovered. Retouched flakes. A total of 14 modified flakes were recovered which could not definitely be called scrapers. Description: they have been retouched along one or more margins to provide a working edge, either for cutting or scraping. The retouch is generally confined to the edge itself and the adjacent flake sur- face, rarely extending very far beyond the edge. Modification of the flake body is not evident, suggesting these flakes were merely re- sharpened or touched up to make a decent working edge. Material: chert. Size range: some are complete and of fairly substantial size, 50-75 mm. in length. Others have post-use fractures and are smaller, but migh~ have been of similar size range prior to having been broken. •
