Sin. i[iguel County gra~rel Bits - !line Reclamation - Page 2
Sites ?iith Completed Excavation:
~!t Cougar Hill - This pit is located on (36) Unnamed 36-Rock Outcrop complex
(Unnamed.36 Fraction). There is a stockpile o' soil material for surfacing,
The ~regetation is typical of Pinyon-Juniper i.'oodland. 'The erosion hazard
is moderate to se-rere because of slope and sandy loam soil texture,
~7 Hzrniltonriesa - This site is cn (X65) i)racca-Cerro gra•reliy loam soil
association (Uracca fraction). There is a Bocd stockpile of soil material
for topsciLin; purposes. Plants are representative of higher ele-raticn
Pinyon-Juniper ?•iocdland. good results can be expected from reseeding, The
site is potentiali;,s more eresi're than .ethers because of higher precipitation
and steeper slopes,
X11 Sroad Canyon - This pit is located on (yOC) Roc:: Outcrops-Torriorthents
map unit. Thera is quite a bit of soil material mi_eed with rock Fragments in
the excavated pi+,. .t will be euite dii'ficult to separate the topsoil and
rock. I suggest that the large boulders be pushed to one side, and the
remainder be graded and shaped for reseeding, There is a good stand cf nature
plants adjacent to the pit, and it appears the pit is reestablish;ng itse"
rapidly, Plants are typical of Pinyon-Juniper '.icedland,
,'~5 -tiramonte - '?'_he soil on this site has not been classified. It is shame
deri~red t~rith 8 tc 1C inches of hea~rur clay surface and numercus shale chins
scattered on the surface. There is no stockpile of topsoil material although
the site has been shaped and graded to sore degree. There is some interest
in comrerting t:.is Nit to addit-_onal r=creation/ca^~p sites for the itiramonte
Recreation Area, I feel iris cep+rersicn should be ercouraBeal. The site has
a moderate erosion hazard. because of scil tex~ure.
Active and Proposed ?its:
;13 Sam Hankins - T":e soil on this si+,e has onl-~ a tents+,i~re classifi caticn.
The description sho as them to 'ce 1C icc:yes of~ loam surface soil. 3anastone
bedrock occurs a~ about 33 inches. The site is locate3 in a natu_^al drair_age-
way, and has hi6h potential for cor.~rersien to a stockalater pond. The ccn-
version should to encouraged, although ti.e soil material will have to be placed
o*rer the rock botton to reduce seepag_ losses. The plants are representa*,.i%~
of Loamy Foothi~~s range site, and the area has high potential for reseeding,
=1 Roger '~illi a,s - This p'_t 15 S1tL'ated On (0617) ~:err0 CObblyr loam, ':here
is some scil ma~erial :which has been set aside for topseilinB. The site is
potentially Pinyon-Juniper :iooaland, adjacent areas ha~re been con~rerted
to ncn-irrigated pasture. ;ith topsoil replaced this pit has high potential
for conversion tc ds^y pasture, erosion hazard is sLoht,
r~72 Lea•rer .?esa - The soils on this si :e ha~re not been classified, i~ field
inspection of t're test nit showed there to be 10 to 13 inches of soi 1
material that could be removed fairl.;~ easily fcr tonsoiling, The vegetation
is transitional to Sub~pine loam ran_>=_ ;ite, There are ~~rery fa-rorable
Brewing conaiticns and gocd revE_etatior. results can be expected. The
erosion hazard is sli;;ht,
