~ Robert Quillen , •
June 17, 1977
Page 3
qualified geologist. In the alternative, you could reduce the proposed
slopes to a range of between 1 1/2 1 and 2:1. This might require either
the expansion of your mining area or that you import fill materials.
6. Your map of existing contours is either misleading or is not t-o large enough
scale to show the varied aspects of the topography. Our staff civil engineer
has determinud that existing slopes are generally no less than 3 1. You
may be able to more fully describe the situation in a narrative as opposed
to submitting a new map.
7. Four seeding mixture dots not have enough variety - it is suggested that
you include both Lur.a pubescent and Intermediate IJheatgrass as well as
some thick spike wheatgrass and a small amount of siaeet clover.
Aavidson Pit
1. Ro locateable point is shown on the maps which would tie the site to a specific
area of lazed. In addition, the access road is not shown on the larger scale
maps. If it is not to be included as permit area, you must justify why,
' (i.e., if the road already exists and will remain after mining has ceased,
then you do not have to include it).
2. The mining plan must address a few more specific items such as hoca much
topsoil (depth) will be saved, where it will be stockpiled, where over-
burden will be stockpiled, w}iere material will be "processed" onsite, and
what kind of processing equipment is anticipated.
3. The proposed reclamation contours are quite a bit steeper than existing
topography, so I caould recommend that you alloca for 3 1 slopes at the
very steepest. (Hob Quillen has assured me this would be acceptable).
4. In the reclamation plan you must clarify what you mean by "p~eclamation
will follow excavation closely." For example, you could state that
grading of. each section crould occur at the end of the mining year each
fall and that top soiling and seeding would follow immediately.
);stey Fanch Pit lil
1. Same map problem - no locateable point, no access si~own.
2. Should clearly outline the current status of the pit in terms of discussing
the size of I: he entire previously disturbed area and discussing how the
Quillen operation fits into it, especially regarding t}ie access road and
reclamation thereof. Also, if Quillens plan to do reclamation of rile
remaining area, This should be mentioned. All topsoil and overburden
stockpiles must be within the permit boundaries and you should indicate
the approximate location (s).
3. What kind of processing will occur onsite? Where will it be located?
Is it permitted?
4. You should indicate which direction 1977 mining will take.
